The Why Waste team were really committed to helping us exchnage our redundant materials for further use.  Thanks to them, 80 dining chairs have been passed on to a school, saving them money, resources and national landfill space.  This has helped us to achieve our sustainable business plan.

Duty of care - Your waste responsibilities

WhyWaste is proud to let you know that we have achieved 'Putting The customer First', the national standard for customer service.

Welcome to Why Waste
Did you know

Did you know the UK produces 100 million tonnes of food and organic waste per year?

Why Waste is working with TEG Environmental to divert some of this from landfill.  Thanks to the support of Resource Efficiency Yorkshire, Why Waste is promoting the the TEG commercial food waste collection service to businesses in the Calderdale and Bradford areas.  The work will also include research into potential improvements for commercial food waste collection services.

TEG provide participating businesses with a 240L wheeled bin which is emptied weekly by a dedicated vehicle.  The food waste is taken to TEG's state of the art, in-vessel composting facility in Todmorden where it is transformed into high quality compost.  Participating organisations already include the Yorkshire Building Society, Bradford University and Bradford College.

We are keen to hear from any businesses producing food waste in the Bradford or Calderdale areas.

BUILDINGS MATERIAL REUSE CENTRE DEVELOPMENT

Why Waste is embarking on a new venture in partnership with Construction Leeds and re'new Leeds.

The establishment of a reuse centre for building and construction waste will :

  • offer a cost effective waste collection service to the construction sector
  • offer an invigorating retail experience to DIYers and small  traders specialised in used/redundant building materials, fixtures and fittings
  • Allow more construction waste to reused rather than down cycled into lower grade products or worse still disposed of.
  • Provide training and volunteering opportunities
  • Work with architects and designers to re purpose materails into new products and small buildings - expanding on our previous Space of Waste initiative CLICK HERE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON SPACE OF WASTE
  • Work with other social enterprises to form a network of reuse centres.
