19: Pellet Power

The Wood Pellet Company is a new, Keighley based, business, which manufactures wood pellets and supplies biomass boilers.  Roland Embleton Managing Director of the Wood Pellet Company purchased a second hand pellet mill in 2009 and over the last year has brought it back into production. The Wood Pellet Company is now in business supplying wood fuel and sustainable heating solutions to the domestic and business market.

During 2009 The Wood Pellet Company made contact with Why Waste to discuss their requirements for waste sawdust for pellet manufacture.  Why Waste then helped Roland to make contact with two other local companies, also Why Waste members – shop fitting company R N Wooler and Co and timber specialists British Hardwood each producing suitable waste.  This has resulted in a very satisfactory arrangement where all three companies have benefited, proving that one man’s waste is indeed another man’s treasure.

British Hardwood has also benefited from other materials sourced from Why Waste including bulk liquid containers from Purifications Products in Shipley.  Tony Fillingham – British Hardwood said…..

“I think Why Waste is brilliant it has made financial savings for British Hardwood over the years and has helped us to develop mutually beneficial relationships with other companies in the area”

Simon Thompson Buyer for R N Wooler explained that

“Why Waste helped us make contact with the Wood Pellet Company and after the initial purchase of containers for waste saw dust, the arrangement will save the company in excess of £4,000 per year.  We are as sustainable as possible in our operations and see this as another step in the right direction”
