13: Durham Duplex saving £384 per year in disposal costs thanks to Why Waste

The Business Environment Centre (the-BEC), visited Cutlery manufacturer - Durham Duplex in 2009 to explain the benefits of Why Waste and assess how the business was managing its waste.

Administration Manager,  Duncan Bagshaw, acknowledged that they had waste management problems and were currently reviewing their waste management contracts.  He also acknowledged that he was not satisfied with a company that was collecting their paper and cardboard.

The-BEC suggested that they use Why Waste website to look for recyclers. Details of how to register and place a record were explained and the Why Waste brochure was left as reference material.

As a result the company registered with Why Waste and the-BEC successfully matched their waste offer of cardboard with a recycler that was requesting paper and card board.

This information was e-mailed to Durham Duplex who contacted Gwyn Davies Recycling Services Ltd.  Gwyn Davies now collect Durham Duplex's cardboard for free as part of an ongoing contract.

As a result the company is saving £32 per month in collection charges and is diverting 4.4 cubic meters of cardboard and paper waste from landfill per month.
