11: OXFAM SAVE MONEY ON WASTE CARDBOARD WITH HELP OF WHY WASTE

The Oxfam Depot in Huddersfield is run by around 40 people, most of them volunteers.  It has a £250,000 p.a. turnover and deals with donations of items ranging from furniture to golf clubs, clothing and games, supplying local stores with items.
Mid-Yorkshire Chamber told them about the Why Waste website, and BBEF went along to explain more about how the website could help them.  The depot deals with a huge volume of items, and receives ½ tonne a week of cardboard boxes, far more than are needed to package purchases.
Waste cardboard and paper was costing them £35 a tonne to landfill, and was not environmentally friendly.  BBEF visited to explain what Why Waste was, and helped the Depot to create a listing on the spot for the cardboard.
Two weeks later BBEF checked up and found that seven companies had called to offer Oxfam solutions and help them with their waste cardboard.  This is now being collected for free and they are being paid £10 a tonne for the material.
Environmental savings, cost savings, and even a small income – fantastic news for Oxfam and the Environment.
